UPCOMING EVENTS AT THE LIBRARY

  • Computer Classes scheduled for May *NEW!*

    The Jacksonville Public Library will once again be offering computer training classes for the general public. These classes are provided through the auspices of the Loan Star Libraries Program, and will be taught by David Anderson.

    David Anderson has been helping East Texans solve their computing problems in one capacity or another since 1986. He has more than fifteen years of networking experience including NetWare and various flavors of Microsoft Windows. He was a programmer for a total of 4 years. He's repaired and built computers since 1991 and has also been a database administrator for about a year, in addition to other duties.

    He is a Microsoft Certified Professional who also holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. He has also taught computer science classes at both Lon Morris and Tyler Junior College.

    David has been the instructor during the previous computer training classes at the Jacksonville Public Library.

    Signup sheets are now available at the circulation desk of the library. You do not have to have a library card to attend these classes; however, seating is limited, and each class is restricted to ten people.

    Topics covered will be "Basics of Windows", "File Management (or, Where's My Stuff?)", "Basics of Internet I & II", "Basics of E-mail I & II", "Using Microsoft Word", "Using Microsoft Excel", and "Using Microsoft Powerpoint".

    Classes will be held from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm on the following dates:

    Basics of Windows (May 1)
    File Management (May 2)
    Basics of Internet I (May 8)
    Basics of Internet II (May 9)
    Basics of E-mail I (May 15)
    Basics of E-mail II (May 16)
    Using Microsoft Word (May 22)
    Using Microsoft Excel (May 23)
    Using Microsoft Powerpoint (May 29)

  • Library offers Live Online Homework Help

    Many children and young adults come to the library to work on their homework and school projects. Now, they can receive help from real, live tutors right from home or at the library via the Internet!

    The Jacksonville Public Library is offering an exciting new program called Live Homework Help for 4th - 12th grade and college introduction level students. Available every day from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, this program connects students to a real live tutor. (Spanish-speaking tutors are available for math and science questions Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.)

    Children and young adults simply log on to the Jacksonville Public Library Web site, follow the "Live Homework Help" link, enter their grade level and the subject they need help in and they are instantly connected to an expert tutor in that subject. Students can receive help in math, science, social studies or English.

  • Library adds access to the Dallas Morning News Historical Archives

    Access to the historical archives of the Dallas Morning News have been added to the "Online Resources" portion of the library's Website. A link is also available in the left-hand menu on all pages of the library's Website.

    This online resource offers full-size reproductions of the Dallas Morning News from 1885-1977. To access the resource from within the library, simply click on the link from the menu or "Online Resources" portion of our Website. To access the databases from home, simply log in with the barcode number on the back of your library card.

  • Friends of the Library Notecards Still Available

    The Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library still have notecards available at the Circulation Desk. These attractive all-purpose cards feature a beautiful illustration of our library on the front with a blank interior so you can personalize them with your own information. A packet of ten cards with envelopes is $ 3.00. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library.
